Hermle Clocks - Nearly one hundred years ago, Franz Hermle began manufacturing and selling mechanical clocks. In 1922, Franz Hermle founded the Franz Hermle Clock Company in Gosheim / Wuerttemberg, Germany. Within ten years the company became known as one of the most modern and efficient manufacturers of clock movements in the clock industry. Franz Hermle and his sons' dedication weathered the effects of WWII and made Franz Hermle and Sohn, prosper while other companies capitulated.

The founder, Franz Hermle, died in 1953 and left a modern and prosperous operation to his sons Gebhard, Alfred, Hans and Heinrich Hermle. They have continued to build the company into a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of clocks, and mechanical clock movements.

Sternreiter Clocks - Sternreiter is a mark of true care. Sternreiter clocks are designed, maintained, and built by craftsmen with over fifty years of experience. The finest case makers and movement builders from around the world combine their talents to produce a line of heirloom timepieces.

By Sternreiter!

The first authentic carriage clock was made in Paris at the start of the 19th Century, by Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823).

Carriage clocks are also known in France as “Officer’s Clocks.” The name is based on an historical anecdote. It is said that Napoleon, having almost lost a battle because one of his officers was late, ordered his military chiefs to carry a small clock with them at all times. Orders placed with master clockmakers always included the reference “a clock for an officer” and this brought the name into common parlance.

Original Carriage Clocks, such as this one, include a jeweled platform escapement visible through the beveled glass on top. The escapement was placed this way so that the clock would continue to keep time while it was bounced around in a carriage with wooden wheels in the 19th Century.

These carriage clocks are gold plated with the traditional, shock-resistant, platform-mounted jeweled escapement. Each carriage clock comes with an upholstered-interior presentation box and gold key. These clocks are collector’s items and heirloom pieces for generations to come. Each one is a fine work of art.

Elias Ingraham (1805-85), a cabinet maker, was commissioned by George Mitchell to design and build a new style of clock case. Ingraham came to work for Mitchell in May of 1828 and eventually designed the sharp gothic clock case in about 1845. This “steeple clock” style has ever since been one of the most popular designs in American cabinetry. It has been copied and redesigned countless times over the last two centuries.

Pictured here is one of the very limited number of versions available with HAND PAINTED dials, painted by the award-winning Black Forest clock dial painter Conny Haas.

The New Haven is named for the town in Connecticut which holds some of America’s most beautiful examples of gothic architecture. The New Haven pays tribute with a reverse-painted glass which harkens to the beauty and complexity of a gothic cathedral’s rose window.

Sternreiter’s New Haven is a large clock at an excellent price. The clock works beautifully on a bracket or stately mantel and is the perfect addition to any American home.

These clocks are individually numbered with limited production and are assembled in Berea, Ohio USA.
